Dawn Weller Prop Stylist and Set Designer London and Copenhagen

About me…

I relish the moment an image comes together, that point where it all clicks and becomes more than just a collection of all the separate parts.

My work has developed a richness and natural narrative style over the course of my 20+ years in the business. I pride myself in being able to draw the eye to the product and tell the story of the brand along the way, to give that moment when the client says, “that’s the one”.

I love my work. Whether it be large scale set builds, or the smallest still life, the moment when the image clicks into place will forever keep me enthralled.

“a passion for nature and a love of colour.”

That “Wow” moment!

Getting that “Wow!” moment, bringing a brand’s story to life, means that I have to get to know a brand inside out: what their “Why” is, their ideal customer, and current look. It’s much easier then to think about every possible eventuality for the job.

This all happens way before the photoshoot. So, when I’m asked, “you didn’t happen to bring some …, did you?” Nine times out of ten, I can say, “Yes, I did.” And the tenth, I’ll have a good idea about how to get it, or come up with something even better instead.

An eye for detail

These skills, developed throughout my time styling, began at college, studying Fashion Design and Manufacture, a base of persistence and an eye for detail in design and making. Picture editing then honed my eye. Five years in visual merchandising and window display, four of them designing, making and implementing global campaigns for Links of London, taught me what draws the eye and what literally stops passers-by in their tracks.

Add these to the creativity and talent of the photographers and creatives that I’ve had the privilege of working alongside, and it’s a recipe for success.

I am also obsessed with colour. I teach and consult about it and love developing and working with colour palettes that speak to a brand’s mission and purpose.

Nature and sustainability

I come at my work from a deeply human place; conveying engaging emotion is central to what I do. I’ll give you flow, vibrancy, a passion for nature and a love of working with colour. I enjoy working with colour so much that I teach about its use and impact.

Loving nature makes it my duty to think about sustainability and ethics. I donate unwanted props to charity, and source as sustainably as I can. I’m developing relationships with sustainable suppliers and routinely consider the human impact of supply chains. I’m far from perfect, but believe that if my industry starts to think about these issues more, we’ll make a real difference.
